THE DISTANT DREAM
A short DOCUMENTARY FILM
Recent work on the plight of brick kiln workers in Pakistan. The brick kiln industry employs over 4.5 Million workers out of which 30% are children.
This was an eight months long project that look me to one of the most ungoverned brick kilns in the Punjab region. Workers at these kilns have been working as bonded labour for years and in many cases for decades. Entire families have been forced to work including children and elderly women.
During the shoot of the documentary we met a brick kiln worker who had written some poetry on the struggles they face and was happy to share it with us and give us the permission to use it. This poetry was performed by Abdullah Qureshi who was taken on board for the project.
the film was funded and produced by the TRUST FOR DEMOCRATIC EDUCATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY AND SOLIDARITY CENTRE.
